Supporting Digital Marketing Agencies

The Challenges Digital Agencies Face

If you run a digital agency then you will be focused on generating leads for your clients and helping them build their online presence. You goal is to delight your clients and keep them for the long term.

But are you allocating enough time to grow your agency in a sustainable way? If all your time is sucked up delivering exceptional client work then, at some point, your agency is going to fall over. To prevent this from happening, you need to dedicate enough time to create a visionary yet pragmatic plan, together with a robust set of products/services and a fantastic onboarding and retention plan for your customers. At the same time, you need to manage your team and watch the cashflow and profits, AND you have to fend over the competition!

Standing Out In A Crowded Market

If you want to build a sustainable digital agency with a robust set of products/services and a loyal client base, you need a plan, a clear market differentiation and a fantastic sales & marketing machine that delivers a constant flow of new long term customers. Are you clear on how to do this and do you allocate enough time every month to work 'on your agency'? It may be a cliché but it’s so true.

When should I use a Coach?

When you want to move your agency forward. Maybe you have hit a brick wall and want some support to break through it.

Remember, a sportsman has a coach with him all the time to focus his game, perform at his peak and help him achieve his goals. The same is true in your agency and for you.

According to a recent report published by, companies that seek external support are 94% more likely to successfully grow.

How does the coaching process work?

I typically work with clients on a monthly basis. Face to face - I usually meet once a month for 2-3 hours. Online clients can be once or twice a month for 1-2 hours.

This is enough time to do some meaningful work but not so much that it becomes intrusive on your 'day job'. You get a set of notes from me with clear actions that you need to complete before our next session. You also get access to all the relevant tools and templates that will help move the coaching process forward.

How Long Do I need A Coach For?

Good question and it varies from client to client. Some clients need a specific piece of work completing and want a coach/mentor to help drive that forward, so it could be just for 6 months. Some want a trusted advisor by their side so the intervention can be longer.

A minimum time you should commit to is 3-months. This will allow us to do some meaningful work together.

About Rob

I have 30+ years of commercial business experience. After beginning my career by working in various blue chip companies, I took the leap In 1991 to start my own marketing, PR and design agency. Over the next 11 years, I grew the business into an award-winning agency with 25 staff and revenues in excess of £1.5m. In 2002, I sold the business and then retrained to become a coach and mentor. Since forming Da Costa Coaching in 2007, I have helped over 350 agencies to grow in a sustainable, profitable and enjoyable way.

Why work with Rob?

I had to restructure my company after my business partner decided to leave, and the process of having to scale back and uncertainty of continuing in a new form was daunting. I love the project work and our team, but I was disheartened about running a business after a prolonged period of disruption. Rob challenged and supported me to explore how I wanted to move forward and helped me realise I want to grow the business again. He's also helped me develop better practices around team management and client contact. I'm delighted the business and I are now both thriving again - and this couldn't have been possible without Rob's careful input, advice and experience.

I worked with Rob to help with the direction, structure and development of my agency. He helped me to define exactly what I wanted from the agency and how I wanted it to evolve. He helped me to develop a vision, strategy and practical plan to build the agency in a way that I wanted - that matched my personal situation and aspirations.

Lloyd Gofton

MD, Liberate Media

I founded my business on my own and after 6 years of extremely hard work for very slow growth (3 people), things had stagnated. I needed to work out a way to either make my company work or get out. Rob helped me think through what I wanted and how to get there. It was great to have someone who has been in a similar situation to talk to about these issues. We have since been able to grow and recruit more people. We are now very profitable and thriving, I cannot recommend Rob highly enough and could not possibly manage without him.
